September is National Suicide Prevention Month. As a preventable cause of death, suicide is one of the biggest public health issues we face today. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Americans ages 10-24, and the 10th overall leading cause of death. One person dies by suicide every six hours in Michigan.
Â
During September, Gryphon Place is offering several opportunities to support and educate the community on suicide prevention. The events include:Â
Â
All Month: Round-up your purchase at Harding's MarketÂ
Sept 12: QPR Suicide Prevention TrainingÂ
Sept 16+17: ASIST Suicide Prevention TrainingÂ
Sept 16-30: Pampered Chef Fundraiser Â
Sept 21: Suicide Prevention WalkÂ
Sept 25: Safe Messaging TrainingÂ

Resilience and recovery are possible, and prevention works. Knowing the warning signs and resources to help someone in crisis can save a life:
Talking about death or dyingÂ
Looking for ways to kill themselves Â
Talking about feeling hopeless or having no purposeÂ
Talking about being a burden to othersÂ
Increased use of drugs or alcoholÂ
Displaying extreme mood swingsÂ
Â
If you are in need of immediate support, call 9-8-8.
