Gryphon Place Suicide Prevention Walk raises more than $23,000
More than 240 walkers participated in Gryphon Place's inaugural Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday.
The walk started in Bronson Park and went through downtown Kalamazoo. The walk marked the end of National Suicide Prevention week, which is dedicated to education and prevention.
"Everyone at Gryphon Place is overwhelmed by the positive response and support that we have received for this event from that Kalamazoo community," said Maricela Alcala, executive director of Gryphon Place."We could never imagined that it would be this successful in the first year and are excited to see what is to come."
The walk not only increased awareness about issues surrounding suicide but raised more than $23,000 dollars for suicide prevention programs at Gryphon Place.
