Mediation --- a peaceful way to resolve conflict |
Mediation:
Mediation is a way for people to solve their problems with the help of an impartial third person, the mediator. The mediator assists everyone involved to talk about the problem in a safe and confidential setting. When everyone agrees on how to solve the problem, the mediator puts the agreement into writing. Courts generally honor these agreements as binding contracts. Mediation may be requested before or after a case is filed in court. Mediation takes less time and money than going to court and is private. Statistics have shown that at least 80% of the disputes that go to mediation are resolved. Mediation works because the people with the problem participate of their own free will and have a say in the outcome. |

- Restorative Justice: DRS provides opportunities for victims of juvenile and adult crimes to meet with offenders, talk about what happened, and have input regarding consequences.
- Schools: Conflict resolution options are available for schools to use in helping students, staff, and parents develop safer schools. Services for Special Education disputes are also available.
- Training: Workshops and seminars on conflict resolution skill building are available to businesses, labor organizations, government agencies, and non-profits.

Mediator training is open to those interested in volunteering or adding this important skill to their lives.
